53% of Resumes and Job Applications Contain Lies. Is Yours One?
Why do companies routinely perform background checks these days? It's estimated that 53% of all resumes and job applications have been "embellished." And that's not okay (just in case you were wondering). Resume fraud -- lies, critical omissions, deliberate ambiguity and misleads -- cost employers $600 million a year. For the individual job candidate, resume fraud can lead to loss of job opportunities and actual jobs (if its discovered after you're hired), loss of reputation, and -- for lawyers -- possible ethical charges and discipline by your state bar.
How big is the problem? Check out this infographic by BackgroundChecks.org, which I found on UndercoverRecruiter.
