Every legal team wants its lawyers to excel.

Leadership coaching has been common in the business world for years, helping executives and promising executives rise to challenges in their workplaces, succeed at their current levels, and prepare for the next steps in their careers. Today, more and more legal teams also recognize an outside perspective can help attorneys become better—more business savvy, emotionally intelligent, inclusive, goal-oriented, and forward-thinking—team leaders and team members. Coaching can be either proactive (for example, ensuring a lateral partner or recently promoted managing attorney gets off to a good start ) or reactive (for example, responding to an event or crisis in the workplace involving interpersonal skills).

Leadership development offerings for mission critical leaders, rainmakers, and potential next generation leaders include both one-on-one coaching and group training on issues such as:

  • Leading with authenticity and values

  • Developing an executive presence

  • Dealing with “imposter syndrome” and other blocks both internal and external

  • Building confidence and trust, both within and with others

  • Having difficult conversations with compassion

  • Strengthening communication and relationships within multi-generational and diverse workforces

  • Smoothing office and client relationships

  • Creating a unified, forward-looking professional brand

  • Creating and executive business development and client development plans

  • Establishing a reputation as a thought-leader

  • Finding and networking with potential clients and referral sources

  • Delegating to SMEs, junior lawyers, staff, and others

  • Building the softs skills to “manage up” and “manage down”

  • Improving on-the-job performance

  • Adjusting to new and embracing a leadership style, philosophy, or organizational culture

  • Setting and achieving goals

You’ve challenged me to think about what kind of person and professional I want to be. What kind of brand I want to have... This is, to me, a break out moment where I can be the lawyer I want to be.

Shauna’s given me so much good advice... It has been very helpful for me to be reflective and to think about the root cause analysis... I’m much more focused on what I can learn from this experience.

I need to be more self-aware in my interactions... I did appreciate hearing how impactful these experiences were for these associates. I learned something from that. Sometimes I’m more abrupt than I’d like to be. I’ve been trying to be more thoughtful and more clear. I’m taking a positive view and getting ahead of the problem, and I’m much more attentive to reading my colleagues.

How We Help Develop Lawyers

At Bryce Legal, we can help your attorneys thrive as leaders and members of your teams, whether they are senior leaders, next generation leaders, potential rainmakers establishing themselves, or recent additions getting off to a good start.

Since 2006, we’ve worked with lawyers on developing both the “hard” and “soft” skills necessary to thrive in law practice—whether in law firms, corporate legal departments, government, or non-profits.

We’ll partner with firm leadership (including, as needed, managing partner, general counsel, and practice group leaders) and talent management (including, as needed, CHROs, Chief Talent Officers or Chief Legal Talent Officers, legal hiring directors, attorney professional development directors, and HR teams) to design tailored offerings to meet the needs and realities of even the world’s most prestigious law firms and corporate legal departments.

I’ve already raised my [professional] profile... It opened my eyes a lot.
